Not sure what to say?

A year and a month late [like I often was for class]. He was one of my teachers at Hale in 1974-1975. Condolences to his family.

Mr. Lester was a highlight of my time at Crawford! I remember the class trip to the geodesic dome home as one of my favorite trips to the snow! Thank you, Mrs. Lester for letting a bunch of crazy teenagers into your house!

I was a former student of Johns as well, in the late 1980s he was my beloved history teacher. I think of him often and was sad to hear of his passing. I will always remember John and the lifelong love of history he nurtured in me. His gruff exterior and wit belied a man who cared deeply about his craft. I will miss you John, we are all better for having known you.

Neighbors for 40 years, we share so many wonderful joyful memories. John was always ready give some scholarly advice to our children and grandchildren thru the years. His rose bouquets for us were so lovingly presented and each rose identified. Always the teacher, he was able to turn simple conversations into true learning occasions. He has a special place in our hearts and prayers. Marie Anjard

As a former student from Hale Jr High, I have often thought about Mr. Lester in my adult life and how he shaped and influenced my life. I wish I could share with him in person and thank him for the love of history he instilled in my heart. History became my passion and led to a fulfilling career as an archaeologist. I am now retired and living in Prague and spend my free time exploring European history. Thank you Mr. Lester for your influence which has led to the amazing life I live! You will...

A life well lived, you will be missed John.

With sympathy to Barbara, family and friends on a great loss. The American Rose Society and San Diego Rose Society deeply appreciates his love and service.

Barbara, I'm so sorry to learn of John's passing. Perhaps the 50 years of memories you shared with him will help ease your grief. I remember visiting you both in Idylwild at your geodesic dome house and marveling at it. And I also remember our years at Standley Jr. High, and faculty parties when John joined us. He was always a welcome addition to the Stanley family. I remember John as such an interesting man, always looking for another hobby. Fondly, Betty Kellers
