$450 Car for World Traveler When John P. Lozowsky was told to mow the lawn when he was a child, the results were troubling, if creative, his sister Diane remembers. Using a big nail, he tethered a self-propelling mower to a cinder block, "so he could lie back and sunbathe so the mower could do its job," she said.

At 45, he still had his own way of doing things. His Hawaiian shirts raised eyebrows where he worked as a contractor for Marsh & McLennan. Faced with a pay cut, he said, "You know, we make too much money anyway; the money we make should be given to nurses and firemen and police," recalled Lynda Blake, an office friend. He biked to work from Queens and had a $450 car, which his son, niece and nephew helped paint, to travel between New York City and Skaneateles, where he spent long weekends.

He moved around a lot, having lived in New Zealand for 12 years, long enough to become a citizen. He called people "mate" and was laid-back in a Kiwi kind of way, said a co-worker, Michael Notabartolo.

Ms. Lozowsky said: "You never knew when he would pop in or pop out, so his death is really distant. I've gone a year without seeing him, I've gone four years without seeing him, and it's like he's not even gone yet. For us he could be in New Zealand, or New York City, or Belfast. Some of us haven't yet started the process of missing and grieving."

Not sure what to say?

I'm just sitting at my desk on October 7th 2025 scrolling videos on Youtube when I saw one on 9/11. The thought popped into my head of how many fellow New Zealanders were taken from us on that date so I decided to look it up, as you do, John was one of the two names that came up. Having read the many beautiful messages on here about him I found that he lived my city, Wellington, and even lived in Petone... the suburb I grew up in, such a random coincidence. He sounded like a real champion who...

Dear John, it's 22 years now since you were taken from us. Time has not diminished the memory of you. My wife Juliette (you would like her) and I raised a flag at home in Wellington in honour of you and in remembrance of that tragic day so many years ago now. Rest in Peace my friend. P.S. I still have your Janis Joplin CD collection but since you never returned my electric drill let's call it even.

Thinking of you John - the twins turned 25 this year, so many years have now gone by but you remain in my thoughts. Deidre

Miss you John, and thinking of you on this day. Saw your son's music, man how proud you must be of him!!! <3

RIP John. I still can't believe you're gone. I pass your house in Wellington, NZ and remember the many projects you worked on there and our trips to the hardware store for 'lumber' and such. You will not be forgotten.

Another year rolls by! The twins are first year university - lovely ladies who make me so proud. How I would have loved them to meet you. Still remember you visiting them newborn in hospital and passing on your parental pearls of wisdom! Miss ya buddy!

Now 15 years ... And frankly you would be shocked at the state of the world.

360 deg video, VR, Pokemon Go however would have bought a smile to your face :-).

I miss that smile and the world misses your cherry disposition!

Remembering my friend, he is laughing at us from somewhere....

And another year rolls by ... unbelievable that 14 years have passed. Thinking of you John and your family.
All my love
