John Lukac was a quiet, soft-spoken honor student who was motivated to join the Marines after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "He wanted to protect the country. He wanted to make a difference no matter what it took," said his mother, Helena. Lukac, 19, was among the Marines killed Oct. 30 when a car bomb exploded on the outskirts of Fallujah. Lukac''s parents, Jan and Helena Lukac, said their oldest son bypassed college to join the war on terrorism. The parents, Hungarians who were born in communist Czechoslovakia, waited 10 years to get a visa and emigrate to the United States. Lukac was stationed at Marine Corps Base, Hawaii, with Cpl. Joshua Egolf, 20, of Blue Grass, Iowa. "He loved getting into discussions with everybody. He was an outstanding Marine and was a good man," Egolf said. "He got me out of trouble a couple times."

Not sure what to say?

Thinking of PFC John Lukac this Memorial Day. While I didn't know him, he was a fellow Marine. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Lukac Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of John Lukac US Marine Private 1st Class. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded...

Sweet John...still seems like just yesterday that I saw you. You'll be in my thoughts forever. Words seem so inadequate still after all this time. Wish the hands of time could be turned back.
Forever in my heart.

John, I can't believe it will be 10 years since you've be gone. I will never forget saying good-bye to you when you left for the Marines,,,that memory of you and your smiling face will be forever in my heart. I will love you always, sweet, kind, John.

In memory & honor of John Lukac. We shall forever be grateful for his service and sacrifice for this Nation.

John Lukac, John Byrd, Kelley Courtney, Andrew Riedel, Jeremy Bow, Michael Scarborough, Travis Fox and C.J. Lapka; it's been 8 years since you gave up your tomorrows so that we can have our todays. Thank you. Rest in peace Marines.

Sweet John, April 20th, your birthday, you would have been 27 yrs. old. Saturday I will go to the cemetery with your Mom, stare at your name on your gravestone, and still not believe it. Love and miss you so much...I still do not have words....
