John's passing is such a loss to his family (of course) and to all those whose lives he touched...which are many. I first met John in the early 80's when he was doing a consulting project with hospitals in NENY for NYS DOH. His sharp intellect, genuine care of/for others, and his positive spirit made an indelible mark that stayed with me over the years. We'd subsequently cross paths from time to time, but only briefly until 3 years ago when he joined CDPHP. I was teaching part-time at Siena...

I began college at SUNY Oneonta back in 1979, and John was the RA (resident advisor) on our dormitory floor. I am profoundly saddened to learn of his untimely passing (from the Oneonta alumni newsletter). John was such a wonderful help to all of us who came in as nervous freshmen - a reliable, caring and steadying advisor - and we all remember him fondly. John really went out of his way to help all of us settle in and get used to being away from home, and as I read the loving tributes to him...

We first met John on our first day of school at Oneonta, August 1976. We lived on the same corridor, in fact, Mitch was in the same suite. John was always friendly yet serious about his studies. We always knew his dedication would set him on a path to be successful. We did in fact see him a couple times post graduation when he had begun work at Bassett Hospital. We send our sincere sympathy to all of John´s family, our thoughts are with you. Mitch Merber and Vicki Martin-Merber

Dear Holly, Meredith, Brittany, Aislinne, and Elleanor. We were shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. He was so talented, vibrant, and kind. Whenever I think of John I'll remember him in his turnout gear at firefighting training, reading from the ambo at church, and sitting in the audience for every one of his daughter's musical performances. Our hearts are with you. May fond memories sustain you during this difficult time.
