MACARTHUR, John "Jack" E. - Of Flint, age 90, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 12Noon Saturday, December 13, 2003 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. John L. Musgrave officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flint Institute of Arts or First Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends from 11AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. MacArthur was born in Buffalo, New York on December 11, 1912 and was a resident of Flint since 1938. He graduated from U of M-Ann Arbor with an Engineering Degree. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, Genesee Valley Commandry #15; a life member of Fellowship Lodge #490. On November 25, 1940 he became a Master Mason; Past President of the Flint Shrine and Past Potentate of Elf Khurafeh Shriners. He was also a member of the following; Flint Golf Club, Lost Tree Club in Florida, Harbor Pointe Golf Club, U of M Alumni Association, Michigan Engineering Society, Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, Flint Cultural Center; Past member of the University Club; a member, former Elder and Sunday School Teacher at First Presbyterian Church. Mr. MacArthur owned and operated MacArthur Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1996. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude "Sissy"; son, J. Douglas and wife Linda MacArthur of Fresno, California; daughters, Jean and husband Patrick MacLeamy of Novato, California, Cynthia Davison Abbott and husband Dr. William Abbott of Weston, Massachusetts; 4 grandchildren, Patrick MacLeamy, Bonnie MacArthur, Laura MacArthur and Charles and wife Joanie Lippincott; sister, Helen Young of Alberta, Canada. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Craig Davison Lippincott, in 1999.
