John was kind, welcoming and for all his accomplishments, the most unpretentious man I ever met. I have many fond memories of my days spent with your family in New Cumberland and of Starr's weekends with my family in Williamstown. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had the honor and priviledge of meeting Mr. Macfarlane while working at Bethany. There was a wealth of knowledge stored in his mind and he so often shared it with the staff. John will be missed very much, he always had a smile and a kind word-he could lift your spirits when you felt down.
