John W. Mahoney

Coach Mahoney impacted so many of us in a kind and supportive way. He truly was a surrogate father to many, as well as a wonderful football mentor. I enjoyed playing for him, as did so many others. His ability to counsel , motivate and advocate well beyond Scituate High School was inspirational. We were all left as better people as a result of his friendship and guidance.

Butch Mahoney was a good friend - AFTER I passed his US History class at SHS and he had my back several times when I did my student teaching in the English department there. He often told his junior level US History classes how much better behaved his children Danny and Susan were than us!!
What a wonderul life he had after SHS.
I am sure God is "holding him in the palm of His hand".

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice-first for our Country when you served with the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War and later for the citizens of Quincy and Norfolk County when you served as a Law Enforcement Officer. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Mr. Mahoney was a wonderful teacher, friend & coach to many at Scituate High (class of '67). My deepest condolences go out to his family & friends. I had no idea what a great human being he was until I read his obituary. God blessed him and his family. RIP.

He was a natural teacher and a dedicated coach. I can see him shaking his head with a big grin on his face. Coached me in football and wrestling, Scituate High School '69. Rest in Peace Coach.
