John MANGIAFICO Obituary

John "Giovanni" Mangiafico, 80, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Elaine (Schiavo) Mangiafico of 58 years, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Born in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Sicily, on November 20, 1941, he was the middle son of five children to the late Sebastiano and Lucia (Ciarcia) Mangiafico. John grew up in Sicily, traveled, worked, and paved the way for family to come to America, but his heart belonged to Italy. He retired after owning and operating John R. Mangiafico Masonry for many years, his passion and dedication to his trade was evident by the excellent reputation he had in his field. John was an extremely hard worker and provider for his family. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, gatherings with friends and family, and watching his favorite sports team, Juventus. For many years he was a member of Wethersfield UNICO and the Canicattinese Society of Hartford. As a member of these organizations, he made many long lasting friendships. John was a devoted husband and father but his life became complete when he became a "Nonno", his heart filled with pride and joy. He was happiest when spending time with his grandchildren. Nonno was a huge part of their lives, they love and will greatly miss their Nonno. In addition to his loving wife Elaine, John sadly leaves his son Sebastian Mangiafico, his wife Katie, and grandson, Vincent of Berlin; his daughter, Lucia Morgan, her husband Allan, and granddaughter, Olivia of Wethersfield. He also leaves several relatives and friends. Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at LiveWell for the compassion shown to John and his whole family. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 22 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Interment will follow the Mass at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.
