I was looking up former teachers and came across John Markarian's obit and realized this man had shown great patience with a no talent musician like me. I still have a love for music and a realization that I have no gift or talent in this area but some great experience due to this man. Don Connors '70

My heart goes out to you for your deep loss you must be feeling for your beloved John. How sad to lose someone so loved and so needed. May you find comfort in prayer and in one another. (Jeremiah 29:12,13)

Mr. Mark did so much for Westwood High School music. He was a wonderful choral director. I will always remember how he would stand before us on stage and produce a small white card that read "Smile" so we would all loosen up and laugh before our performances. He held us to high standards, but we had a good time as well. My heartfelt sympathy to the Markarian family at this very sad time.

I'm so sorry to learn of Mr. Markarian's death. He was an amazing music teacher and choral director, and he fueled my love of music. I loved singing in his chorus and glee club.

I am very sad to learn of Mr. Markarian's passing. He touched the lives of so many WHS students through the many musical programs that he so patiently and professionally offered. He was a talented teacher who could take our young voices and produce truly amazing music, no matter what the degree of difficulty! He always held the bar high but never forgot to praise us for our effort. Our performances always ended with one of his glowing smiles! I had the good fortune to get to know him...

He will be greatly missed! I went to school with Nadine and we both played the flute in the marching band and the concert band in high school. John was a brilliant musician/conductor and so kind to his students, he taught me so much in my years at Westwood High. He will be greatly missed by so many of us fortunate enough to have known him!! My heartfelt condolences to all the Markarian family. In the mid-70s Mr. Markarian was my music teacher, and I gained from him a life-long love of choral music. But more than that, I learned not to compromise on high expectations, for the reward in the end was excellence. He was always a generous teacher and a marvelous mentor and example. I have and will continue to cherish his memory.
