Tim and I had a great time kayak camping with Johno last summer on Willapa Bay. He was funny, thoughtful, knowledgeable...he seemed to know something about everything! We sat up late around the campfire, talking, laughing, and watching sparks fly off into the night sky.

As John's neighbor for over 5 years(135 RWD) before moving to Georgia, I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. John was a breath of fresh air with whom I shared a similar(sardonic is spot on) sense of humor. He was my technology angel when I was at wits end with computer issues, and we shared similar views on many issues as well as our published one liners on the the NYTimes blogs.We kept in contact as recently as last month...he was a true renaissance man and I will sorely miss...

I'm looling at the complete volume of New Yorker cartoons that John gave me one Christmas--just one of the very thoughtful gifts I received from him over the years. I will think of John every time I laugh at those cartoons and I will appreciate and miss him.
