John is remembered with great respect and fondness. He was a talented writer and leader of young people.

I had the pleasure to go scuba diving with him in the Bahamas over a spring break while at Wyoming High School, and always have had great memories of that trip and talk about it often. I still dive today thanks to him giving me that opportunity. I look forward to seeing him when I get called home and we can scuba again. Rest...

John was a wonderful teacher and a valued colleague of mine during our years at Wyoming. His caring nature and professionalism set a standard for his students and fellow teachers. He leaves a legacy of excellence and will be missed.

John was my cousin and I will miss his smile, his sense of humor, and his kindness. He loved his family and was truly a Christian man. May God bless Linda in the days to come.

Mr. Mathews was an amazing teacher, and a very kind person. His teaching still impacts my life today, 30 some odd years later. My thoughts are with his family today as they say goodbye.

Mr Mathews was a wonderful educator and human being. I will always be grateful for his humor and kindness. Prayers for the Mathews Family.

My deepest condolences to his family. Mr. Mathews was a kind man and one of my favorite teachers. In fact, it is partly because of him that I became a high school biology teacher myself. He made quite an impact on my life and he will be greatly missed.
