I had the pleasure of meeting Jack last year at a Galileo reunion. Although I did not go to Gal. my boyfriend at the time, Pete La Rocca, was very close to Jack. There wasn't a day that went by when Pete did not praise this wonderful man. I have heard about Jack since 1962, and I feel honored to finally see him again after all these years. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and to all the Gal. students who benefited so much from this great man. God Bless, Tina Canepa

Jack: My master teacher, my daughter Joan's typing teacher and SMC Alumni, whose children are friends of my son Jack. A Catholic man who could always be called upon to do the proper thing. What could be more San Francisco than that. The D'Angelo family and San Francisco will miss you but will always love and remember you. Famiglia McCafferi his Irish humor and warm greetings and smile certainly made him a I I I (3i) kind of Guy.

Not only a great teacher but he was a wonderful person, loved by everyone. We will miss him dearly at our reunions. My prayers are with the family. God Bless you Mr. Jack McCaffrey, you will be missed.

Mary, John and Katie,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. "Uncle Jack" was the best. He made me feel like I was part of the family the day I met him, along with Kevin. His love of life, family, and friends made him glow.
Kevin always loved a gathering where Uncle Jack would be, it meant some fun and laughter talking St. Mary's versus USF sports. Cherished moments for sure.
His forever smile will be in our minds and his spirit remains within us all.
God Bless All of you,
Love, Peg and Kevin Murphy

Mr & Coach McCaffrey was one of the same person to me as he was our class advisor for 3 years and when I played on Gal's 112's basketball team he was our coach and infact we had won the City's championship 1 year. He was so proud of that accomplishment but not as happy, proud and beaming so broadly as when his children were born. He was smiling from ear to ear and passing out cigars to fellow teachers on Bay Street. Unfortunately, some of us students couldn't convince him to give us one. I wonder why? We promised not to smoke them but he just smiled.
At times, it must have been an interesting teaching experience for him at Gal. Coaching basketball & teaching typing ...In basketball, we're taught to keep our hands up on defense; slide your feet from side to side; use your posterior aka Butt to screen out opponents for a rebound. And,there he is, as I can envision it, in his Typing class attempting to teach his students probably some of which were jocks who had 10 thumbs the basic and finer points to typing. It must have been an uphill effort at times. Reminding the students & jocks to keep their hands on the typewriter; quit moving their feet and keep a good posture in their seat. Maybe, that's how he had developed some pre-mature gray hairs.
My condolences to his family. Thank you Coach McCaffrey for serving the urban kids of San Francisco for so long & well. You were and are a Galileo Lion King.

As a 10 year old brat, I sat on home plate and refused to move...holding up a ballgame at Balboa Park. Mr. (Jack) Mcaffrey was my coach. He patiently removed me from home plate so that the game could proceed. I never forgot that...and that was in 1954...I remember his patience and his love for all his players. I pray for the repose of his soul and ask God to bring him into eternal peace and rest.

I have wonderful memories of Jack McCaffrey as our class advisor during time at Galileo. He was not afraid to say what was on his mind and he always had the best interests of his students at heart. He always pushed us to do our best and he was responsible for a lot of my achievements during high school. Jack will always hold a special place in my heart. My sincerest condolences to Mrs McCaffrey, and his children. Love, Lillian Ng

Coach McCaffrey will live in the memories of the class of 1972 and many more students at Galileo H.S.. To us he was a great teacher, coach, mentor and friend. Jack was Galileo, and he taught us so much about learning and growing up. Every time we meet at reunions or any social gathering, we talk about Jack. His ears are always ringing, and they always will. Rest in peace Jack! On behalf of the Class of Galileo 1972- Gary Gilliard, Boys Vice President.
