Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Dr. McCarthy. He embodied everything I loved about learning at Fairfield U and inspired me to become a psychologist. He was brilliant and funny- truly a wonderful advisor. Many of his words and sayings still echo in my mind. I think of him often.

Always had good conversations with John @ ffld. U my deepest condolences to the McCarthy family. May he rest in peace and GOD bless. Go sox

I echo many of the same thoughts that my brother, Phil, posted earlier to these tributes, even though I graduated from Fairfield in 1976, six years later. Still, I was there for many of his memories and acquired many of my own starting as a sixth grader, attending the first Fairfield hockey games. Dear Maura and Family. My condolences to you and your family. I enjoyed four great years at Fairfield watching my son play hockey and getting to know your father. "Doc" put his heart and soul into the hockey program and I don´t know how he put up with the players antics. He was loved by all. Bobbi Leary

Dear Betsy, I'm sorry to hear of John's passing .... John was enjoyable to chat with when we met either on the elevator or in the Main Reception area at the Renaissance. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm truly sorry to hear about the loss of John. John was the Psychology Department Chair when I arrived at Fairfield University 21 years ago, and in that role he had a tremendous impact on both the department and my career. John was a wise mentor, a prolific scholar, a steadfast advocate for the department, and a good friend and colleague. My sincerest condolences to Betsy and their children and grandchildren during this difficult time.

I still vividly remember Doc walking into my freshman year (1966-67) dorm room in Gonzaga Hall at Fairfield U asking if we needed a coach for our newly formed hockey team. I immediately said yes and neither of us looked back after that. Many memories were shared including getting to play at Madison Square Garden (and winning), traveling to Riverdale in the Bronx to play the NY teams, home games in Bridgeport and after season parties at his house in Fairfield. I feel fortunate I was able to...
