John “Jack” McClure Sr., 89, of Queensbury, NY, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Jack was born on August 29, 1935. He was the son of the late Bernard and Doris McClure. Jack graduated from Brant Lake School in 1953. Upon graduation Jack joined the Navy and served until 1958. He cruised the Mediterranean and Red Seas and was on isolated duty on San Salvador Island. Jack thoroughly enjoyed serving our country and was known for enthusiastically talking about this time in his life.
On April 4, 1959, Jack married the love of his life, Beverly McClure. This past April, the two celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage.
In his early years Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter (who they called Tanto). Jack worked at Adirondack Community College for 28 years, starting his career in 1967 as building grounds supervisor before being promoted to Director of Facilities. Jack retired in 1995.
Jack always had an immaculate lawn, gorgeous flower gardens, and fresh vegetables to can from the garden. Jack was a dedicated New York Yankees fan, word search enthusiast, and loved a good Nascar race.
He was born to serve others. As an avid member of Vantage Point Church for numerous years he always took care of his community. He deeply valued his neighbors, always the first to help and make them smile. He also took care of the local animals, feeding squirrels, birds, and befriending the stray cats (buying cat food to make sure they had the best of the best). Jack loved nothing more than his family, teaching them valuable life lessons, creating memories, and supporting them through all their accomplishments.
Jack is predeceased by his son, John McClure Jr.; grandson, Lucas McClure; his siblings, Glenna (Bill) Shanahan, Robert McClure, Bernard (Marje) McClure; and his brother-in-law, Coolige Braley.
Jack is survived by his wife, Beverly; sister, Lois Braley; daughter, Patricia (husband, Bob) Southworth; daughter in law, Cathy McClure; his grandchildren, Chauncey Southworth (fiancée, Beatrix Evans), Olivia Southworth (boyfriend, Nico Dandini), Sarah McClure; and five great grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews, and friends for life.
Jack loved to tell stories. It was a passion and everyone around him loved to listen. His family will cherish these stories for the rest of their lives and would love to continue the legacy of Jack’s memories. We ask that anyone lucky enough to cross paths with Jack to please share a story or memory by emailing [email protected] for his family to cherish.
On behalf of Jack and his family, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 2nd floor staff at the Pines for everything you all did. We also cannot thank the incredible emergency room staff, the team on Tower 2, and Jack’s RN Sadie at Glens Falls Hospital for the heartfelt care and compassion that was shown to him and his family.
At Jack’s request, services will be private and there will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jack’s memory to the Glens Falls Hospital Cancer Center, 100 Park Street Pruyn Pavillion, Glens Falls, NY 12801; SUNY Adirondack Foundation, 640 Bay Road, Queensbury, NY 12804; or the Wait House, 10-12 Wait Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
Condolences may be sent directly to Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804, or through www.bakerfuneralhome.com.

Dear Patty and Family,
I am sorry for your loss. Jack retired long before I came to SUNY Adirondack. I didn't know him, but I get the sense from his obituary that he was a very special person. In time, I hope that happy memories help to ease your grief.
With sympathy,
John

Our hearts are saddened to learn of Jack's passing. What a sweet sweet soul he was. We were blessed to know him and be considered a friend. And he along of Bev graciously consented to be part of a photo shoot that Rick did for his website for the Fight Cancer page. He was always witty, always greeted us with a loving smile and a joke or two. How precious those memories are and we will cherish them. Our love, prayers and sincerest condolences go to you Bev and all of Jack's family. God...
