John "Jack" McDermott, 74, of Minerva, Ohio, a U.S. Navy veteran, an employee of James River Corp. in Minerva before his retirement in 1983, died at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, following a short illness with cancer. Calling hours are scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2001, 6-9 p.m., at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Minerva. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, February 23, 10 a.m., at the church, officiated by the Rev. Msgr. John M. Campbell. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations are appreciated to Alliance Visiting Nurse and Hospice Association, 885 South Sawburg Road, No. 106, Alliance, OH 44601. Arrangements entrusted to Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home, Minerva, Ohio.

Knowing you since I was a child, six I think, I even knew then you are a terrific guy and watching you with Bridget Michele and John,I could only think what lucky kids they where to have such a great Dad. Even when you put things in layaway at Henry's and didn't have permission, your Dad would get in that car and go pay for those jeans! Thank you Jack for being such a big man in my eyes all my life. Your loving memory will feel like a warm hug from you each time I think of you, and one day...

Jack it was great to know you and i will miss our visits each time i return home.there are alot of great memories and laughs that were shared over the last 25 or so years and when they come to mind you will be remembered also. i'll miss you jack.

Papa, You were the best grandpa that any girl could ever have you were like the dad i really ever had and i am so mad you are not with me now i will always remember how much of a great grandpa you were to me and i am so glad you gave me mom, dell, and guy everyone tells me how much i look like my mommy and that makes me fell so good inside it makes me sooo happy thak you papa I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!
