Not sure what to say?

Sarah, Katy and I have some of our best memories of John and you and your wonderful hospitality those summers at the cabin. We enjoyed the time we spent with you folks. Our love and prayers are with you and all your family.

John was, quite simply, one of my favorite human beings. I was blessed to have him as another father and as a "Johnfather" to my kids. I will so miss John's presence but, as Charles suggested at John's Memorial, I will try to absorb everything he was to me in to my heart and soul and be grateful that I have memories of John to carry and smile upon.

I am Lynn McLarty, the third-born nephew of John and Sara, and not to be confused with one of John and Sara's wonderful daughters-in-law, Lynn McLarty. All of their lives John & Sara have been can-do' people. In their early 30's they bought 120 acres in the prettiest river valley in Colorado and made the land pay for itself. Having grown up in close proximity to John and Sara, I know they both positively influenced my life in more ways than I will ever understand.

I was very close in...

Davis-as you know we were lucky enough to meet your Dad one summer in Colorado. So happy to have had that experience. You have a great family- you're extremely lucky:)

I shall remember John with great affection and admiration, for his kindness and generosity to me on my occasional visits from Scotland and, with friends Al and Tricia Judd from Santa Fe, our happy times with John and Sara at Conejos and on our explorations of the South-West, with the added pleasures of Shakespeare at Cedar City!
It was a privilege too to have them visit Edinburgh, and to be with them on their travels in Scotland.

We have many fond memories of John from summers in the Conejos Canyon. Thanks for card games, fishing and being a true gentleman. John will be missed. Sending love and prayers, The Hull family

I have never met a family who was so close and got along so well as this fine bunch. Thank you for always making me feel so welcome and a part of it all! I will remember the good times at the lovely cabin and watching SNL, John and I wore the same perplexed expression as we watched the commercial parody while the others exploded in laughter. You all know how to have fun! I hold everyone close to John in my heart and wish you the best moving through this loss of such a kind man. Hugs all...

Trish Judd
John's abundant head of hair (pictured so clearly above) thinned a bit but nevertheless remained enviable to the end. My now deceased husband, Al Judd, and I enjoyed lots of halcyon days at the cabin over the years and several laughter-filled trips with John, Sara, and dear friend Jack Reynolds of Edinburgh. What I loved most about John (beside his hair) was his sharp, quiet intelligence and his perceptive, low-keyed sense of humor. He was always interesting, yet easy and fun...

Sending heartfelt sympathy to you Sara, to your sons, and family in the loss of John. Stories from our son-in-law, Thomas, have given us insight into his grandfather's life well lived.
