Dr. John Oden Mecom

I know this is late but I've been off work awhile- The Heart Hospital in Plano where John volunteered. I was sad to learn of his passing. I got to know John while working the front desk and enjoyed his stories. He was a brilliant, kind & funny gentleman and I did learn interesting cell biology facts too. I wanted to send a card but could not get his address. I wish your family my sincerest condolences. I know he is in peace. God Bless.

I was a counselor at Richland College for 18 years. John was a wonderful colleague and teacher there. I know he will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John was a kind, nice, friendly, helpful neighbor. We enjoyed golf and beverages together with good conversation. We miss John already. Rest in Peace John.

I did not know this gentleman as I was just reading the obits in the DMN, and I have never done this before. But Dr. Mecom sounds like the father/grandfather every person wishes they could have. This was a really well written obit - I can feel your pain of loss, but also your joy of life. My prayers are for you and your family.

So sorry to hear about Dr. Mecom. I had the privilege of being a biology student in his class at Richland College back in 1976. This was a large auditorium class but Dr. Mecom had no trouble getting and keeping your attention. It was very clear from day one that we were there to learn. Very glad to see what an interesting, productive life Dr. Mecom. I had a lot of professors I don't remember well but Dr. Mecom is not in that group. Condolences to family and friends.
