My deepest sympathy to the family of John and Ginny. I was part of the Georgetown faculty when Ginny was there and appreciated what a lovely couple the two were. They created exciting adventures in using their gifts and talents, but their enthusiasm and joy were always for their family and each other. Grace Harlow Klein

Deepest sympathies to the Mermel Family. I served with Mrs. Mermel in Muscat, Oman and met Dr. Mermel through the years. They were both wonderful people.

The legacy of a life well lived is a treasure. John's dedication to his medical profession, his country, and his family were evident and obvious to all who knew him. I was proud to say he was my cousin, and that we were able to renew family memories in the last several years. My wife, Elaine, and I send our sympathy to his family members across the country. He will remain in our hearts.

Both Maria and I have known John from the day we both started medical school in 1956, he later was an usher in our wedding. I was about to have dinner with him but had to cancel because of his illness. To John's children we must say how sorry we are to have lost such a dear friend, our sympathy to them. We will miss him.
