It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Robert Metz, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left this world peacefully on February 25th, 2025 at the age of 81. John was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him, known for his kindness, patience, and unwavering support.
Born on November 11th, 1943 in Butte, MT, John dedicated his life to his family and loved ones. He married the love of his life, Aggie, and together they created a warm and loving home. John and Aggie were married for 59 loving years and never left each others’ side.
One of John’s proudest accomplishments was the cabin he helped build on the banks of the Dearborn River, which became a cherished second home and a haven for family and friends alike. Through his hard work and dedication, John, his son, and other family and friends transformed the cabin into a warm and inviting retreat where countless memories were made.
Those who visited the cabin experienced the warmth of John's spirit, as he welcomed everyone with open arms. The legacy of that cabin will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who had the privilege to enjoy its tranquility and the love that John infused into every corner.
John was preceded in death by his son Joe Metz, his brother Don Metz, his mother Ruth Otto, his father Art Metz, and his sisters-in-law Patsy Sullivan and Mary Jo Walsh.
He is survived by his wife, Aggie Metz, his elder son John Metz, his grand daughters Johnna, Sadi and Allison Metz, his great granddaughter Blaine Murphy, his brothers Lyle (Sharon) Metz and Chuck Otto, his nephews Tim (Connie) Ferriter and family, Donnie (Diane) Ferriter and family, and his nieces Patty (John) Walker and family, Tracy (Jonathan) Gorman and family, Aggie (Don) Duhame and family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hueftle and his staff for their kindness toward John and his family during his treatment.
John will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. Rest in peace, dear John. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4th at St. Patrick’s Church in Butte, MT at 11am; doors will open at 10am. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and honor the legacy of a remarkable man who touched so many lives. A reception will be held following the Rite of Committal in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in John’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Flowers may be sent to St. Patrick’s church.

Aggie, I'm so sorry to read of John's passing and your loss. I knew of John during the time we were all growing up in Butte, but didn't get to know him a little until we spent time together at one of our reunions. A fine, decent, likeable man. Janelle and I send you our love and best wishes, Willers
