Not sure what to say?

Honored to have known and worked with John in Safe & Loft. Always a gentleman and great Detective. My condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure of meeting him toward the end of his career in the NYPD but I knew of his many times he responded to hostage/barricade situations. He was a mentor for new members of the HNT and a wise counselor for the team leaders, myself included. Rest in Peace John. Hugh Hugh M. McGowan, Lt. C.O. /NYPD HNT (ret)

My grandfather was a brave, smart, kind, thoughtful and endlessly loving man - we will all miss him so much!!

My sympathies to the Miles family. John was a neighborhood icon. After I got on the NYPD we used to talk often. At one point in my NYPD career John recommended me for a position I was interviewing for and I got into the unit. I was also with him at a hostage situation back in the mid 1980s. He was a true professional & someone to be looked up to.
