John R. Milholen, age 88, of Alamo, died Sunday, May 27, 2007.

He was born on August 3, 1918 in the Meyers community of Garland County, the son of George M. Milholen and Mary Ellen Cannon Milholen. On December 23, 1939, he was married to Minerva Ann Burrow Milholen and they had 65 wonderful years together until she went to rest with Jesus on January 4, 2005. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, J. D. Milholen.

He lived on the farm at Alamo where most of his children were born and raised. He grew many good vegetables in his garden and worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement.

He enjoyed visiting with all of his friends, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by nine children and their spouses, Denzil and Faye Milholen of Hot Springs, Jone and Waylon Chambers of Sims, Erma and Loyd Cummins of Eugene, Oregon, Hershel and Sherrie Milholen of Dover, Travis and Wanda Milholen of Terrell, Texas, Farron and Glenora Milholen of Mount Ida, Rhonda and Mark Adams of Hot Springs, Edsel and Teresa Milholen of Bonnerdale and Leithon and Karen Milholen of Alamo; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Elder N. L. Cannon and Bro. Dwight Finney officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Peak Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Art Halstead, David Milholen, Bennie Weston, Dallas Weston, Wendell Burrow, Rick Milholen, Brian Fryar and Jim Milholen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Verser and the administration and staff of Montgomery County Nursing Home.

To Uncle John's family, My heart is with you as you mourn this lovely man. He is one of the few people I have never heard a critical word said about--indeed, only praise.

I was so sorry to hear about Uncle John's passing...he was the last sibling remaining of my Granny..Della Milholen Moore and somehow feels like losing my Granny all over again and she has been gone since 1980. Please accept this with my deepest sympathy for your loss...and he was great...my Great Uncle John.
