John “Jack” Moscato, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 8, surrounded by his family. Born in Chicago on July 6, 1935, a graduate of Harper High School and Chicago Teacher’s College. John enlisted in the United States Army in 1956, achieving the rank of Specialist Third Class. After his honorable discharge, he pursued a career in Information Technology. During his lifetime he owned a restaurant and a warehouse, earned a real estate license, a law certificate and several computer programming certificates. John was an exceptional athlete, playing basketball and baseball in high school, college and the Army. He married Margaret (Maggie) Spence on December 10, 1966 and together they welcomed their daughters, Maria and Sara. He was at his best as a father, helping Maria with schoolwork or coaching Sara on the basketball court. He never missed an opportunity to support them, showing pride in anything they accomplished. He especially loved his favorite grand-dog, Denver, who was patiently waiting for him with a tennis ball when he arrived in heaven.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Moscato, his brother James (late Kay) Moscato, and sister Mary Ann (late Russ) Russelburg. He is survived by his much loved daughters Maria Moscato and Sara (Todd) Howe, ex-wife Maggie Moscato, sister Marge (Bob) Patten, nephews Dan (Becky) Marolda, Christopher (Gia) Russelburg, John (Marianne) Moscato, James (Christine) Snyder, John Endzelis, Joe Endzelis, nieces Susan (late Fran) Gaudette, Mary Lynn (Charlie) Hollendoner, Michele (Michael) Murphy, Catherine (Peter) Korp, his grand-dogs Aspen and Bronx, and grand-cat Miss Kitty.
Visitation is Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C., 108 E. Illinois Street, Lemont. A service will be held at 12:00pm at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, the burial will be held privately. All guests attending the visitation must wear a facemask , and social distance per Covid-19 guidelines . In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s name may be made to the ASPCA or your local no-kill animal shelter.
