John Henry Nealy, Sr., at the ag e of 92, was called home to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. He was born in Lamison, Alabama on April 4, 1926, to the union of Simon Nealy and Charity Perkins Nealy. He also was reared by a loving step-father, Charlie Robinson. He moved with his family, while he was still young, to Mobile, AL. He was the beloved husband of the late Audrey Dixon Nealy.


 


John was baptized when he was young and remembers going into the river in very cold water. He became a Seaman and became a member of the National Maritime Union where he was a very active member for over 40 years. In 1990 he retired as a Seaman and spent his time in Mobile serving others until his illness.


 


He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-father, son, John H. Nealy, Jr.; his three brothers Willie James, Ben, and Robert Lee; son – in-law, Gregory Morris; grandson, Demond Thomas; granddaughters Mary Nealy and Megan Hamilton.


 


John is survived by five daughters, Sonja Saizan, Tydell Whitfield (Joseph) of New Orleans; Elizabeth Nealy, Gina Morris of Houston TX; and Deirdre Nealy-Hamilton of Mobile, who has been his major caregiver for the last eight months. He also leaves to cherish his memories daughter-in-law Durinda Thomas Nealy, grandchildren: Torrance Nealy (Na Tisha,) Kendal Morris (Genera,) Dalyn Morris (Junice,) Kortni Nealy, Charlene Nealy (Derrick,) Kristen Collins (Robert,) Tydell Thomas, Duvonna Nealy, Isaac Nealy, Bradley Hamilton; and Jeanine Davis Nicholas; dedicated former son-in-law, Henry Hamilton; foster niece, Angela Edwards; goddaughters: Elicia Jaxon Sutton and Latonya Wells-Horne; and a host of great and great, great grandchildren, numerous cousins and friends.
