February 11, 1942 - December 25, 2016

John was born Feb. 11, 1942 in Wisconsin and at age 17 the family moved to Oregon.

He served in the Army, being stationed in Germany. John worked all over the Northwest, at a job in Hawaii, and one in Alaska, and here in the Skagit Valley for nearly 35 years.

He was a machinist and fabricator, working on fertilizer and grain plants, and keeping countless pieces of farm equipment working. He had an analytical mind and loved to solve a problem by designing and building something to "get the job done".

Though he loved to hike and fish, and just be with his dog, his greatest passion was horses, especially the beautiful Tennessee Walking Horses that he bred for many years. He generously shared his knowledge and horsemanship with many of us over the years.

John passed away on Dec. 25, 2016.

He is survived by his mother Alice, age 98, of Oregon; brother Gene of Spokane; sister Jane of Oregon; and daughters Nicki and Marsha of Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at the Blanchard Chapel on Sat., Jan 21 at 10:30 am.

Arrangements under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, WA.
