My father, John A. Paulius was born of Lithuanian parents, John and Elizabeth, on May 12, 1922 in Chicago. He was raised in Brighton Park, attending Immaculate Conception grade school. He graduated from Kelly HS in 1940, where he played pulling guard on the football team, lettering in that sport and basketball, baseball and bowling.

He was employed as a detailer for the Crane Co. He enlisted shortly thereafter in the United States Navy Coast Guard and was assigned to shore...
