Not sure what to say?

John Penberthy will always be at the top of my favorite school years people list. He was my homeroom teacher in Rm. 116 when I arrived at SOJH in 1967. One of the most respected veterans in the school and that is saying something when such a large percentage of the faculty were also veterans. John received the respect of all with his commanding personality. I searched for him on the internet tonight because I passed Congressional Parkway in Livingston earlier today. John and I painted...

Dear Sue, I am so sad for John's departure and the empty place he has left in your family. It is a right of passage I don't think many of us will every be comfortable with. My mother always speaks with great fondness of you and John and I know she is deeply saddened as well. Our hearts reach out to you and please know you are always welcome to pay us a visit here in Maine. May you and your family celebrate everything John gave to you and may he live in your hearts forever.

John Penberthy was a model American and the best history teacher I ever had

I will always remember you , and Mrs P both great people condolences to your family I was class of "78"

I will never forget this wonderful teacher. He made all of us excited about the subjects he taught. He had afterschool clubs and I always signed up for them. I even remember some Chinese words he taught us, in his Chinese club after school. He taught us things that were relevant to our lives intertwining history and wisdom. He always stood by the door outside greeting us before class..He was special and everybody knew it.. I will always remember him...he was a terrific teacher.

John and Family -

Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers.
The memories contained on these pages of a kind and loving man who inspired his students and was held in such high esteem by his colleagues is truly impressive.

I remeber Mr. Pemberthy with much affection and respect. He taught me a lot, and 2 things I still remember almost 30 years later:
1. Land heats and cools 4-5 times faster than water (explains a lot about weather) and
2. "The world is an oblate spheroid -- flat on the top and the bottom, and bulging at the sides, just like me."
He taught me to love learning, to consider it an adventure, and to laugh at myself sometimes.
I wish I had made the time to let him know how much I...

I never forgot you & you were one of my favorite teachers. Rest in peace

Sorry sorry to hear. Mr. Penberthy was our next door neighbor for ten years. A really terrific person. Keeping an eye on everything. Sue - all of our condolences. Gino and Cathy
