Not sure what to say?

I had Professor Pickard for 3 classes at UCO. When I saw his name by the class in the schedule book I took it, 2 Humanities courses, and one class on Japanese Cinema. I had already been aware of him from his somewhat sarcastic and always humorous (in the best of ways and appropriate times) film reviews in the Gazette. It is said that Pickard could be curt, but I feel this was unfair, as he only dosed that out when it was deserved, and it was never malicious. He was a gentleman in fact as...

I worked at the Oklahoma Gazette when John was writing his skillful and passionate film reviews. His mastery of capturing the essence of a film in 3 or 4 sentences amazed me, always. During the 80's, he curated an exhibit of the artist T C Cannon at the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He insisted that I go. I have such fond memories of John from the North Kelley Thespian days. My condolences to Joan and the girls whom all hold a warm place in my heart always.

I was saddened to read that John C. Pickard Jr. had passed away. When I first went to college, I took some of his classes or attended events that he hosted. What a GREAT teacher! I took away from being around John Pickard a love of film that extended later to getting a degree in film production after I was in the Navy. Going to movies was not complete without reading one of his critiques. My prayers go out to his family, friends, and fellow students who will miss him.
