ANSONIA: John A. Posta Sr., 80, entered into eternal rest on January 14, 2017, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Phyllis Zarnoch Posta.
Mr. Posta was born in Bridgeport on Feb. 1, 1936, son of the late Benedetto and Filomena Ciccone Posta. A resident of Seymour and Ansonia for many years, he was employed as a tool maker at Sikorsky Aircraft for 33 years, until his retirement in 1987. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. John enjoyed hunting and working in his garden.
In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by sons, John A. Posta Jr. of Ansonia, Benedetto J. Posta (Letizia) of Woodbridge and Michael J. Posta of Ansonia, a daughter, JoMarie Peters (Jon) of Oxford, a sister, Lena Smerglinolo of Bridgeport, cherished grandchildren, Angelo Posta, Angela Posta, Bianca Posta, Alicia Ayala (Jose), Benedetto Posta Jr., Antonio Posta, Michael Heathcote, Jessica Posta, Kayla Posta, Jon Peters and Teresina Peters, great-grandchildren, Luna Posta, Santino Ayala, Star Peters, Maria Ayala and Bella Keefe and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Mario, Carmen and Joseph Posta and sisters, Theresa Nicita and Angelina Porto.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday January 18, 2017, from 4-7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia.
