            John R. Prater, Sr., age 84, of Harrod, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his family. 


            He was born on April 1, 1941 in Bainbridge, Ohio to the late William and Minnie (Jones) Pratter.  On October 2, 1965 John married Evelyn Downey and she survives in Harrod. 


            Also surviving is his daughter, Amy (Kenny) Williams; five grandchildren: Blake (Celeste) Williams, Megan (Brady) Broadstone, Richie (Kayla) Prater, Eric (Omnia) Prater and Abby (Chris Scott) Prater; fourteen great grandchildren; and two sisters: Thelma Deatley of Arcadia, FL and Annie (Ray) Huff of Jeffersonville. 


            Also preceding John in death is his son, Johnny Richard “Rich” Prater, Jr.; infant daughter, Latonia Sue Prater; granddaughter, Heather Oatman; four brothers: Wayne Pratter, Lucine Prater, Carey “Junior” Prater and David Prater; and three sisters: Jean Morarity, Velma Knisley and Wilda Hayner. 


            John worked as a lifelong truck driver.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.  John was a member of the Alger First Methodist Church.  He helped with Home Missions and Commodities in Alger.  John enjoyed going to his families’ sporting events.  His family was his pride and joy.


            Funeral services will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger with Pastor Don Clinger officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alger. 


            Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, April 11th at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Alger.  


            In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alger First Methodist Church, Drawer C, Alger, Ohio 45812.

I will miss you Uncle Johnny!! And those phone calls!! Always told me you got the wrong number, thought you were calling somebody that knew something!! Well I knew that last phone was going to be the last, I did feel I knew that!! The farm will never be same, not seeing you there, drinking your coffee!! Oh my! You were my last blood Uncle from both sides of my families!! I hope you all are having the best reunion up there, you should be, you only have the best there!! I hope you told hug...

So sorry to hear of John's passing. Work prevents me from coming to the funeral but know that my heart and prayers are with your family.
