John graduated from Blair Academy in NY, entered Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1936; received BA and MD degrees in 1940.

Mother so she could see well enough to pass the eye examination
To learn to drive a car! She absolutely loved Dr Richards and thought "he hung the moon".

DR. RICHARDS SAVED MY EYESIGHT! WE LIVED IN SANTA BARBARA BUT MY PARENTS KEPT SEARCHING FOR A SURGEON UP AND DOWN CALIF. THAT COULD SAVE MY EYESIGHT AND MIRACOUSLY WE FOUND DR. RICHARDS. HE PERFORMED 3 SURGERIES WHEN I WAS 8YRS. AND 2 AT AGE 10. WONDERFUL DOCTOR AND MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
