A week before "our" 50th High School Reunion on Oct 7th, 2017 I learned of John's death and it hit me hard for I was sure he would attend and wanted so much to see him. We grew up living next door and will always be thankful I had him and his family in my childhood years. Yes we got in trouble and played pranks on each other. One of my fondest memories at school was lunch when I finally stopped his endless teasing by putting my chewing gum in his lovely head of hair...his expression was...

John was the kind of person that you wanted as a friend. I am grateful to have known John for his great sense of humor, his kindness and his intelligence. I am very sad about John's passing but grateful for the memories I will always have of John.

I was a fellow pilot in Columbus, MS with John. I offer my deepest sympathies to his entire family. He will be missed.

It's with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a longtime friend. John was known for his intelligence, his loyalty to his fellow pilots and his sometimes fervent disposition, thus earning him the nickname from his close friends of "pipe bomb". He was also known for the occasional practical joke. Once, while I was chairing a particularly intense MEC meeting, he, unknowingly to me, filled my ice water glass with vodka.
