Not sure what to say?

Saddened to have just learned that John has died. Many fond memories of time spent recreationally and at work bees at the house in Hampton he and Caroline bought in the '70s, evenings at Storrs and Hampton, and subsequent times in Stowe and Hyde Park, Vermont. Many fun times to include some memorable dinners. My sincere greetings to Caroline, their children, and Ross Hanson. John = one of the good guys. From one of his admirers, Brad Benedict.

I will always be grateful for the friendship that John had with my father, especially in the final years of his life. He seemed to know what would lift Dad's spirit and reconnect him to life. John was a very special and thoughtful man. I will sorely miss his warm smile and hug on those Sunday mornings in Church when I would find him and Caroline in the after-service crush. Those moments always reconnected me to my both my parents and to my place in the world.

John was a close friend of my parents, and I was lucky to know him as a result. He was a great friend to my father especially, but to both my parents, always kind, supportive and funny; always there for them when they were having health issues as well as being a charming dinner guest or host in easier times. When I got married and had children and sent him and Caroline our annual holiday letter, he would always write a lovely hand written note in response, saying how much he enjoyed reading...

My second full time secretarial job was at the West Hartford Publishing Company and I worked for John for a few years (and also with Joyce Rossignol). He was always great to me - what I remember most was that he would me drive his station wagon to make some publishing deliveries - and I was only 19 at the time. It was great working for the West Hartford News and CT. Life. I still think of the people there. Rest in peace, John.

I am so sorry I can't be at the service for John's life. I want to tell you Caroline, and all your family, that he was a good friend, unfailingly kind to me at the East Hartford Gazette when I was one of the worst secretaries ever and through the years when I found my niche as a writer for West Hartford Publishing and Connecticut Life.
