John D. Ross, Jr. 92, of 7 Canal Rd. Suffield, CT and formerly of West Dennis, MA passed away peacefully on 12/2/14. Born on April 7, 1922 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of John D. Ross, Sr. and Mary (Whelan) Ross. He grew up in Holyoke, MA. He is a graduate of Brown University (B.A. 1943) and Boston University School of Law (J.D. 1948). He served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lieutenant. He was admitted to the Massachusetts and Federal Bars in 1949 and is a former Vice President and President of the Hampden County Bar Association. He was proud to be admitted to the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Saint Thomas Moore Society. It was also a great source of pride to have his children carry on the Ross & Ross law firm that he and his father started. Affectionately known to many as the Captain, he loved cruising in his boat the Capajack on Bass River at the Cape. He also got great enjoyment from time spent at Marco Island, FLA, where you could always find him with his many friends rehashing the latest news under the chickee hut. In his college days, he was the captain of the Brown University Baseball team and he remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. Jack was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Cauley Ross, his parents and sisters, Maureen McMahon of Sanibel Island, FL and Janet Hassan of Holyoke, MA. He is survived by his daughter, Cauleen Ross Kearney of Suffield, CT and her husband John Kearney, his son, John D. Ross, III of South Hadley, MA and five grandchildren: Kaitlin Ross, Molly Ross, Jake Ross, Brendan Kearney and Trish Kearney. Calling hours at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home will be Friday 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Friends and family may meet for the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA on Saturday at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. For more details please go to curranjones.com. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Saint Pius X Church, 5 Barbara St., South Yarmouth, MA 02664 or to a charity of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

dear cauleen and jack: marco island is not going to be nearly the same place anymore. your parents were great people. i enjoyed every day with Jack for the past 10 years , discussing any subject. particularly baseball, of which he had a great knowledge. I'm going to have a terrific void in my schedules on marco this season. I hope to be able to visit with you if you make any stops at south seas this season. joe delucca

Cauleen and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing so quickly after your Mom. I am sure it is a rough time for all of you. It does make you think of what a strong bond of love they must have had.

Cauleen & Jack,
I was sad to hear of Uncle Jack's passing . I only have fond memories of him. He was always so good natured & fun to be around ! I will never forget all the " Doug Flutie " t shirts / memorabilia he & Aunt Pat got me at BC when I had my big crush on him ! :) It gives me comfort knowing he is with his beloved wife & his two sisters. Love to you all!

Captain you were one of a kind from the Great Generation. We will miss your lively conversation and think of you often when a beautiful sunset decorates the shore. Love, Ali, Abby, Andrew, Sally & Andrew
