John E. Rozance

I fondly remember John and Vida Rozance from Echo Lake and grade 5 at Thousand Oaks. Rest in Peace after a life well lived.

In 1950 I was a new student to Thousand Oaks. In 1951, I had Mr. Rozance for 5th grade. He made learning fun and eased my transition. He was my favorite teacher.
In 1957 and 1958 I worked at Echo Lake Family Camp as a counselor and life guard where Mr. Rozance was camp manager. It was a wonderful experience. I always appreciated his kind, warm, fun-loving and gentle nature.

Mr. Rozance was also my fifth grade teacher at T.O. and my favorite. He was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful man. He made a big impression on all of us.

Dear Mr. Rozance. You've done a fine FINE job in raising your son Jack. He was best friend to my Dad, John. Please watch over my Dad in heaven as you did your son on earth. Big hugs to you and we'll all continue to enjoy your touch through Jack.

I only know Mr. Rozance through his son Jack. That he raised such a kind and caring son who is the demonstration of love and compassion to his friends, family, parents, and community speaks highly of John Rozance. Job well done John Rozance. Go with God.

Mr. Rozance was my fifth and sixth grade teacher at Thousand Oaks in 1954-56. He was a wonderful teacher who cared deeply for his students. In our class was a developmentally disabled student who was being "mainstreamed", probably a rarity at that time. Mr. Rozance not only was successful with this student, but also taught all of us, through example, to be tolerant and understanding of differences and express kindness to our fellow students, no matter what the circumstances. What fun Mr. Rozance's 5th grade class at T.O. was. He made learning a pleasure. I was part of the staff at Echo Lake Camp for 2 summers. There were so many memorable moments with the young Rozance family. In recent years, I enjoyed stopping by to say "Hello" on my walk from BART to my mother's house.
Mr. Rozance was a kind and gentle man who touched many lives in a lasting way.

Mr. Rozance was also my 5th grade teacher at Thousand Oaks school in Berkeley nearly 60 years ago. He was such a wonderful role model and was always eager to join in at recess and play kickball, or whatever it was we were doing. He became our friend as well as an outstanding teacher. I even remember him being a butcher during the summer at the grocery store down at Colusa Circle in El Cerrito, and he always had a big smile for everyone. I also had Mr. Rozance for fifth grade at Thousand Oaks the same year. He is one of the teachers that stands out in my memory. He was a wonderful man.
