John Richard Ryland

I'm saddened to learn of the Commander's passing. Commander Ryland, John, was a mentor I am thankful to have known. He helped me grow as a young LT at Support Center Alameda.

John was my classmate at the Coast Guard Academy. Although I hadn't seen him for many years I remember him well. After reading his obituary all I can say is I am proud to have known such a fine man. Please accept my heartfelt condolences now that he has gone home to be with our Lord.
He was truly a blessing to us all.

John was my Coast Guard Academy classmate and we remember him well. His eulogy speaks volumes about his devotion to God, his family and his fellow man. This makes me very proud to have known him and served with him in support of our country and humanity. God has called him home, but all of us in "the Great 68" will remember him always with great respect.

I don't think I had seen John since graduation from the Coast Guard Academy. I do remember him as being active in Catholic Chapel, and it appears he just continued his active support of the church and its good works throughout his life. We thank God for John's life and his service to others.

John was a great guy, Tom and I always loved our time with him and Martha in Virginia, sitting at their table talking for hours about everything and anything. He could always make us laugh. John you will be missed by many.
