I met John during our entry into West Point. We went through initial training together (fondly known as "Beast Barracks "). I was the boy from Brooklyn and he as the boy from Paul´s Valley. Even during the rigorous training, John always maintained a great attitude that was contagious. Saw John over the years at reunions. Despite his great success in the medical field, he always was just one of the guys; never bragging about his accomplishments. He was special. He will be missed.

My Poppa was truly one of the strongest men I have ever met in my life. It is an absolute honor to call him my grandfather. I love you. Rest easy.

John was a great friend to many and a true pioneer in Emergency Medicine, especially here in Oklahoma and I was there to see it. We weren't close, but he was one of the people who caused me to switch from surgery to Emergency Medicine and then get involved in the early efforts to improve the EMS system in Oklahoma.
