Frye Chapel & Mortuary of Blythe - Blythe Obituary

Warden John Salazar ended his watch and was called up to heaven on August 30, 2021.

Devoted husband, youngest of 13 siblings, father to six, his zest for life was evident in his love of traveling with his beloved wife, Terri, including adventures that often involved the outdoors and fast toys, but he was just as happy relaxing on the river with a cold Corona close by.

A mentor to many of his peers and subordinates, John spent 28 years rising through the ranks in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, retiring as the Warden of Chuckawalla Valley State Prison in 2010. After retiring, he became a realtor in the Blythe, CA area, eventually becoming a broker. He opened the successful River Realty where he continued to actively participate in community events, contributing greatly to the area and its citizens.

He will be remembered as a strong, effective leader, a quiet calm in the chaos of a law enforcement career, a knowledgeable realtor and small business owner, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, and son, a true friend, and a man who loved his family with all he had.

He was an inspiration to many, and will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time and will be announced by the family in the newspaper and/or via his Facebook page.
