1959 ~ 2016
John Edward Sammond was born on February 18, 1959 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to John and Jackie Sammond. He passed away in LDS hospital in Salt Lake City on February 12, 2016 after a valiant battle with lymphoma. He fought like a warrior to stay but the cancer was too aggressive.
He is survived by his self-described soul-mate Jennifer Strong Sammond, the love of his life. They were married in November, 2008 and had 8 wonderful years together. Together they owned and operated Slackers Burger Joint in Torrey, Utah. He is also survived by his sisters Gail (John) Rapp, Joyce (Craig) Olofson, Dianne (Greg) McDonald, nieces Erin Rapp Fox, Candace McDonald, Caitlin Butler, nephews Jeremy and Jason Olofson, Iain McDonald, his step-children Sage and Alexie Davis, his grandchildren Carter and Macie, his in-laws Lynn and Cherie Strong and many, many friends. Preceded in death by his parents and niece, Megan Rapp Prewitt.
A private life celebration is planned for the spring in his beloved Capitol Reef country where he leaves an amazing legacy of many exquisite homes he designed and built. Online condolences: www.broomheadfuneralhome.com

Not sure what to say?

This is a personal experience that happened to me. Just this past Saturday, out of the clear blue I was thinking about John. I think of him whenever I am near places where we worked together. I miss him. He was a really, really good man and he left us all way too soon. I know he's looking down on us wanting us to be comforted knowing he's in a good place.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked for John in the early 90's, and he taught me so much. Not just about carpentry and construction, but about life in general. So patient, so driven, so talented, and so very nice to everyone. He was a great roll model and a genuine human being.

Dear Jennifer,
We are very sorry to hear about your husband and send our condolences.
Since last summer we have been in regular contact with John and planning for him to build our new home in Torrey. We were so excited to have a home built by him. Someday when we all get together in heaven, we will be sure to have John build our home then.
We will look forward to meeting you as we will be neighbors in Torrey in the near future.
Mark and Kellie Cheever

I see your beautiful home out my back window, and know you are hurting, it makes my heart sad, so, so sorry for your loss. Even though you don't know me, I think of you and your loss. May you find peace. Your friend and neighbor. ReNee Clark.

To Johns Family,
I am so sorry for your loss.
John was the nicest person anyone could meet. My heart goes out to all of you.

We are so sorry for your loss, dear Jennifer. Sadness comes into our hearts when we look at the beautiful porch John created for our cabin. We will always cherish it. Our deepest sympathy to you and all your family.

I'm sure by now you have crossed over but I lit this candle for you so that you will see the way to stay in touch with Jenny.
