John was always supportive of the program I started at Columbia High School (CAP - Columbia's Alternative Program) for at-risk youth. He was a key advocate working with me at budget sessions, meetings with central administration, and at school board presentations to expand the program by adding classes, more teachers, and more students who needed help.
