Not sure what to say?

Rest in Peace General Schaeffer! Thank you for your service and dedication to being a great leader for all. Our leaders of today could learn from the legacy you left.

Our family condolences to the John Schaeffer. Mary, may God's love, His peace and His loving arms hold you during this difficult time.

It was my pleasure to meet John Schaeffer a few times during my years in Alaska. The best experience I had when he was not present. A Commissioner of Highways came to Nome and I introduced myself as John Shaffer. The Commissioner drew back his fist as though he were going to hit me, but his advisors assured him that I was not John Schaeffer, but John Shaffer. Seems that John Schaeffer had written the Commissioner a letter that may have been somewhat critical. Glad I survived that...

My thoughts are with Mary and those John left behind....the many happy hours spent together will remain with me for ever....John is now in a better place...and we are all better for the life he shared with Alaska...

Remembered with foundness for his service to his people and all the people of the State of Alaska..
John J Williams (Mayor Emeritus) City of Kenai and the Kenai Borough.

What a privilege l had to be his secretary, he was a kind, gentle, excellent leader with a sense of humor a perfect combination for a leader who honorably served our country. Thanks Mary for your service to a great man. Hope to see you all soon.

First, Thank you John for serving our country. We also thank you for the tireless ANCSA work that you accomplished. Our sincerest love and sympathy go out to Mary and the rest of the family. Condolences to the shareholders of NANA. Memory Eternal, John.

I knew John when I lived in Kotzebue I the early 70's. He commanded respect just being there and being himself. Not having John as an elder will be a great loss to the community and to the State of Alaska.
