Not sure what to say?

I met Father John around 2012, when he was pastor of St. Vincent church in Hanover. My sister, a parishioner there, had spoken very highly of him. Being from Philadelphia, I looked forward to my visits to Hanover so that I could attend Father John's Masses. Based on his homilies, it was obvious that he was highly educated and open-minded; truly a "Renaissance man." He is easily one of the best, most effective speakers I have ever heard speak in person, a group that includes Bishop Ronald...

I first met Father John when he was introduced to our Grade 4 CCD class just after his arrival at Sacred Heart in Lewistown, PA. Several years later, we had the privilege of doing our Pre-Cana work with him prior to our wedding in 1994. John was always kind, patient, and deeply caring in all of his interactions--having his guiding hand leading us through the Pre-Cana process was perfect as my wife was new to the faith. I always carried the highest respect for Father Schmalhofer. My most...

I got to know Father Schmalhofer when he was at Sacred Heart and St. Jude’s. Great priest and all-around good guy. I enjoyed his homilies. God Bless him!

He, Father Paul Helwig, and Father Quinlan played a huge role in my growing up years. I loved them and wish I somehow could turn back time for a moment to be with them!

Father John will always have a special place in my heart. Almost 17 years ago, he married my husband and I at Our Lady of Lourdes in New Holland. We were just barely 21 and 22 at the time. The day was perfect, unforgettable, and blessed with God's love for a lifelong marriage commitment through it all. You will be missed by many, but the memories will carry us on in this life...until we all meet again. Thank you Father John.

Memory eternal.

Father married my husband and I at the cathedral. I was also a student at Good Shepherd when he was a new priest. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
