Not sure what to say?

Dr. Schmitt was one of the most organized individuals. You never had to wonder what he meant by his instructions. I had the privilege of working with him for over 20 years. His organized skills and smile were contagious. I am thankful I had the opportunity to also call him a friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family this Christmas Holiday Season. John was a classmate at Hoban who will be remembered. I know that he is looking down on you and his Hoban classmates. God Bless you.

I will always remember John as a good athlete, brilliant student and all around good guy. This was true for anyone who met him. He was destined to make our world better and he did that every day of his life. He is missed by all of his Hoban classmates.

I missed sending a message when John died but am taking the opportunity now that Butch has sent this memorial card around to John's classmates of 1967. Because we will put into alphabetical order in the classroom, John usually sat in front of me in class. Many happy memories come back to me now. Missing loved ones comes back hard at Christmas. I'll celebrate Mass for John and for his family.

Lane, My parents just informed me of John´s passing. It took me by surprise as all of my fond memories of John were when he was young and strong. I remember when John first relocated to Alabama and he would occasionally come over to eat with our family. One of my early memories of John was when he was able to bend a steel bolt with his bare hands at our home in Tuscaloosa. It seems like it was just yesterday when you and John started dating. I´m sorry for your loss. John was a great guy and...

My sincere condolences to the family of John Schmitt. I am a previous patient of his brother, Tom Schmitt. He has kept me informed about his brother. He sure gave it a long hard fight. May he rest in peace now. I have the Schmitt family in my thoughts and prayers.

John was a wonderful man and the world has lost a true person of service. I worked at the Alabama Reading Service where he volunteered and I was always glad to see him coming in the door, cheerful and ready to give his best in an endeavor he clearly relished. I hope all his family is finding comfort in hearing from so many people whose lives were made brighter by his presence in them.

The following are some remembrances from a few of John's Hoban classmates. As you can tell he was well liked by many of his fellow Knight's. As well liked as he was, he is, for sure, resting in peace. CHARLES MCVAN Thu, Feb 3 at 12:40 PM Remember John from the Musicales. Sent him some pics from back in those days. He was thrilled to get them, said he had forgotten about them. John was a good man, obviously very well respected. Condolences to his family. RIP, my friend Paul Martell...

My sympathy to Lane, Tyler, Barrie, and the Schmitt family. I met John when he first started dating Lane in college. I enjoyed his sense of humor, interesting conversations, and love of music. I remember several lengthy discussions about the Beatles and in particular our opinions and thoughts about The White Album. Living in Texas, I had few opportunities to talk with John after I left Tuscaloosa but Lane has always kindly kept me posted. I know John to be a wonderful husband, father, and...
