John Francis "Francie" Schwenderman

My condolences to the family.

John was a friend of my Dad's, Edward "Woody" Walker for decades. When I was a little kid John would come visit us and throw me up in the air and catch me and I remember as a kid him being very tall. I when I saw him about 20 years ago when he came over to my dad's to do some carpentry work for him. I remember him as always being a very nice kind man. My condolences to the family.

I met John at the Syracuse YMCA in 1967. I went there excited to learn Judo as I had dreamed of learning this since I was a young boy. John did not disappoint. He was a real "task master," and taught in a very Japanese style--no talking and work, work, work--not for the faint of heart or those that couldn't tolerate constant bruises (just what I was looking for).
