SEIER, John J. - Of Grand Blanc, age 62, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 26, 2008 after a valiant battle with heart and lung disease and ultimately cancer. John is now absent from his body and present with his Lord, Jesus Christ. Funeral service will be held at 1PM, Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Michael Stallard officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Visitation 12Noon-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. John was born on August 15, 1945 and raised in Bronx, New York, the middle son of Rose (Tapler) and Alouis Seier. He worked briefly with his father as an iron worker in New York City. With opportunities available in the auto plants, John moved to Michigan and went to work at the Grand Blanc Tank Plant (one of the loves of his life). John rose quickly through the ranks at General Motors from Production Worker to Skilled Trades and on to Maintenance Supervisor, retiring in 1997 with 30 years of service. He met and ultimately married on February 8, 1975, the true love of his life, Sharon A. Woodcock and together they raised three children. John loved God and his family, friends and work and always had a joke or a laugh and never met a stranger. John will always be remembered by his hearty laugh. He attended Fenton Road Baptist Church with family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Sharon; son, Michael and wife Rhonda Taylor of Flat rock, MI; daughters, Laura Seier of Medford, OR, Cheryl Seier of Grand Blanc, Jacqueline and husband Eric Irby of Flint, adopted daughter, Robin and husband Joe Webb of Davison; 6 wonderful grandsons and 6 beautiful granddaughters; brothers, Louis, and Thomas and wife Susan from New Jersey; mother-in-law, Lois Woodcock of Flint; in-laws, Ken and Jackie Kallin of Byron, Don and Rose Woodcock of Flint; former mother-in-law, Virginia Reidmiller of OH and Jan; his church family at Fenton Road Baptist Church; several nieces, nephews and cousins in PA. and New Jersey; neighbors, Steve and Patty Hinson, Ron and Sidney Dalton and many friends. Thank-you to Dr. Adams and his wonderful staff at Genesys, Hurley Cancer Institute. John has donated to the Michigan Eye Bank, remember the gift of life.
