Not sure what to say?

I was shocked and disheartened to read about Ryan's death. He and I were friends during his "Alberta" years. We were both native Californians, grew up in LA, and hand friends in common. He was a great guy. He taught me how to fish when were in Edmonton. Loved the out-of-doors and was truly multi-talented. My condolences to his wife Joy and to rest of his fine family. I truly regret not keeping in better touch.

he will be missed .i worked on his house during the big remodel .we had wonderful conversations about music.he loved the concept of craftmanship.i profoundly respected him and looked so forward to working on his house and validating our kindred spirit of our mutual interest in art and music.you will always be in my heart .hope the goose bumps are transcendent beauty now.

My sincere condolences to the family. I have fond memories of Ryan and our time together in the orchestra. He had a great smile and a wonderful laugh, the recollection of which makes me smile. Truly a great loss.

To Ryan's family... May you find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends.

To our Selberg cousins, Ryan's wonderful family, please know you are in my thoughts on learning today of Ryan's way too early passing. What a career and what a man. I followed his career from here in St. Louis & through our SLSO cellists. May your wonderful memories help you through this very sad time. Ryan was my & my brother Kert Vander Meulen's second cousin. His grandfather was our dad's 1st cousin, his great grandmother sister to our beloved grandfather. May he rest in peace and love.

A sad surprise. We have been enjoying the Utah Symphony for as long as Ryan has been playing in it, and in our family, have a special fondness for cellos and the rich sound the Ryan-led section provided. We wondered how his large fingers could make those precise and delicate runs but saw Rostropovich do it on the same stage with the same-size fingers. Ryan and Ravel left this life in the same way. How comforting to think Ryan, Ravel, and Rostropovich are now in cel together. We thank you...

A very fine man,a great loss.Thank you for your letters, your thoughts and your help.

My sincere condolences to the entire Selberg family. Ryan will be greatly missed but always remembered not only for the quality of his music but also for the quality of his life and person. Personally I will remember his kind and generous spirit.

I had season tickets to the Utah Symphony for close to 30 years. I loved watching Ryan play. He made such beautiful music come from his cello. Thanks for the memories, Ryan. I'll never forget you.
