"John Dexter Sessums died September 11, 2010 in La Quinta," said the hooded man on the black horse emerging from underneath the bed. "Wait. This is not like in the movie theatre, with all the grand music," said John. "Besides, I'm not ready to go." "John is survived by his wife of 53 years,...

Not sure what to say?

I was a student at Johnson Jr High 1983 to 1984

Never got the chance to say thank you

I've heard "Nothing happens in God's world by accident", so why is it, I wonder, that I happen to stumble across my 7th-8th grade principal's obituary? Perhaps it's alright if I never find out.
I do remember Mr. Sessums, Ms. Moffit, Mrs. Kubic and her little dog, Shorty, the quad at Johnson the way it looked in 1978-80, and the last days of innocence before childhood fled us as we ventured off to high school and beyond.
What a unique and enlightening tribute I just read. Thank you...

I didn't know Mr. Sessums but after reading his obituary, I truly wish I had. His obituary was clever and well-written and provided a real insight into who this man was and how we wished to be remembered. My condolences to his family.

I was deeply touched by John's obituary. My sister, who lives in LaQuinta, sent it to me. What a wonderful tribute to a man. My sympathies to his family.

Sessums family~ So sorry to hear of your loss...

Dear sweet John, you were always so reliable. We probably took you for granted and never told you how greatful and fortunate we were to have you a part of anything we undertook for the La Quinta Historical Society. Your willingness and kindness made others take part also, thank you. We all will miss you so much. Terry Henderson, La Quinta

Yvonne, I am sorry to read about your dear Mr. Sessums.
I enjoyed working with you years ago
for the La Quinta Arts Foundation.
In reading the Obituary Saturday I can see you will have many tomorrows of happy memories of a wonderful husband.
May they fill your heart today with comfort and peace and love.
Mardell and Art Brandt

John and Yvonne were hard working members of the La Quinta Hisotrical Society. He was always setting up or tearing down from this or that event. John's middle name should have been "Service" because he was always helping someone. We will miss him.
