Not sure what to say?

Dear Ruth,

I just found out about John's passing this last weekend, while visiting my mother, Dorothea, in Walnut Creek. I was trying to help Mom find you, and I called U of O, and they led me to this obituary. I am sorry to hear this, and my heart goes out to you.

Mom and I continued our search and found a phone number in Mt. Angel, which my mother called and left a message at. She would love to hear from you. She is now in assisted living herself and mostly...

Dear Ruth,

I have nice memories of you both at WU-ICL lectures.
John gave some very interesting programs, was always fascinating to listen to, and fun to talk with..
He was also very supportive of any of the rest of us who gave presentations.
His interests were wide, he asked good questions, supplied good information, and he had a warm, modest, and enthusiastic manner.

We miss him!

Dear Ruth and Jane:
I am so sorry to read about John. What a wonderful man who touched so many lives. I have great memories of time spent hanging out at your house while in high school.
Much love

Dear Ruth and Family; A card is in the mail, but Beth and I remember all the great times we had together. We will miss him.

I was tickled that John's family chose to remember him first as a fisherman. My first memory of John, and there are many, goes back to the weekend when he and Ruth offered to entertain me and my younger siblings, probably preschool to third grade at that time, for a weekend in their big old house on Willamette Street. John was in the kitchen cleaning a fish, and giving us a lesson in fish anatomy, pointing out a gill here and a fin there. It was the first time an adult had casually used...

John and Ruth were instrumental in helping me find the path to a life of public service, for which I am especially grateful. John, with a sharp wit and a positive view about the potential for progress, taught me that much was possible if you just kept at it. To Ruth and all the family, please know Janet and I are deeply saddened by your loss.

Dear Ruth, Pete and Jane,

What a good, talented, thoughtful and funny man was John! Ruth, I remember when you were both at Whitman (and you supervised my practice teaching at your preschool): John directed a memorable on-stage radio version of "Ethan Frome." It was great when you moved to Eugene and we reconnected, as both friends and neighbors. The two of you gave much to this community and in many ways. My best (and my thanks) to you. Bean

My deepest condolences to the family. I enjoyed our annual colorful meetings to help him with his taxes. Stewart Hayes, CPA

Dear Ruth, Pete and Jane,

John was a smart, funny and kind man and I enjoyed his company. I think of him when I listen to KWAX (which I often do) and when I read or hear about fly fishing. My condolences. Love, Joan
