Quiet Giver of Kindnesses

The snow fell thickly that winter night. In the darkness, Frank and Maryann Sherry heard a scraping sound. It was 3 a.m.! They peered outside apprehensively.

Of course. It was their sixth and youngest child, John, 34, who had gotten up earlier than usual for his job as a broker at EuroBrokers at the World Trade Center, to drive over and shovel his elderly parents' walk.

Mr. Sherry, who was raising his family in his hometown, Rockville Centre, N.Y., performed his innumerable small acts of kindness quietly. He unstintingly gave money before the needy recipient had to ask; sneaked away during restaurant meals to pay the check; and when a sibling sought advice, he checked in daily until the turmoil passed, said one sister, Kristine DiLullo. With his smile and bear hug, he was an easy guy to lean on.

Although Mr. Sherry was not loud, he did not tiptoe through life. Convulsive laughter bubbled through his marriage to Missy, and parks and ice cream shops reverberated when he romped through them with their sons, James and Johnny. He was a bon vivant and was never more pleased than when sharing cheer with family. On New Year's Eve, parents, in-laws, siblings and swarms of children always came to Missy and John's to celebrate.

Not sure what to say?

Also, if you scroll down a little bit, you will find Mike Kemp. He was my 5th grade teacher.

My 5th grade teacher said that he had a friend die in 9/11 and I searched up his name and got here.

While September 11 is a tragic memory, I like to dwell on the significance of today...September 20th....John's birthday!
A fine young man who will always be remembered with love.

The first time I visited the 9/11 memorial at the site of the World Trade Center I walked right up to the side of the fountain. I looked around for a minute then looked down at the names engraved in front of me. The first name I saw was John’s. I cried. I grew up in Rockville Centre and was a friend of John’s brother, Robert. May his soul Rest In Peace. Condolences to his family and friends.

Though I never met Cousin John and His Family... I became aware later by my family circle, when I was involved with The Events of 9/11. All My Best Regards and Condolences are with you always. Peace & Love.

Will never forget you Johnny...a very special young man!

I visited the memorial at the site of the World Trade Center 6 years ago. I looked down at all of the names and promised I would take a name home with me and remember and pray for the person and the life that was left behind. The name I saw was John A. Sherry. When I got home, I googled him and saw pictures. I read about his family. I pray for his soul and his family frequently. I feel close to him. What a great person he seemed to be. I will continue to pray for his wife Missy and 2...

Kind hearted, well grounded good man. Very mature for his age and for the profession we were in. I miss hanging out with him and Jimmy "The Fish" Lombardi. Missy, if you read this, John cared for you a great deal. I can still remember him speaking so highly of you.
