John L. SHOTWELL

I was thinking about John a lot - now I know why. So sorry - his persona was exceptional, his joy of life pervasive, his love of Shirley and his family incredible, and his enigneering skills coupled with a strong dose of common sense made for many sucessful outcomes. John will be missed, a great friend, mentor and teacher for myself and my OES associates who worked with John and Sirley during the disasters throught the 1990's. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. ...

Barbara, your father was a prince. He certainly put up with a lot of interesting stuff. My prayers go to Shirley as well as all your family.There will always be fond memories of those bygone days.

It was my very great pleasure to have worked with John at state OES (now CalEMA). John was a thorough professional who could always be counted on to deliver a first class product, no matter how difficult the assignment. His service was commendable and he will be well remembered by his former colleagues.

It was a distinct pleasure to work with John.He accepted difficult assignments with great profesionalism.His public agency clients and their citizens, across Caifornia, were well served. I was pleased to ask for and receive his advice.His friendship will be missed.

Many present and past employees of CalEMA (formerly OES) will never forget the kind and helpful assistance that John Shotwell gave to his fellow colleagues. John was very knowledgeable in his profession and pasted on a legacy to those who remained at OES after his departure.

My condolences on John's passing. I worked with John at Placer County Public Works from 1976 until he retired. I will always remember his Rata Tat Tat laugh.

I have just read the obituary in the Sacramento Bee regarding the passing of John. He hired me in 1995 as a "disaster worker" following the floods. What a wonderful and special boss! I'll miss his warmth always. With fondness to you, John, Helen Morse Peel
