John G. Sisson, 95, of Washington, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Townview Health and Rehabilitation, Canonsburg.
He was born October 28, 1920, in Uniontown, to David and Amelia Gabriel Sisson.
Deceased are his four brothers, David, Elias, Jacob and Harry.
After graduating from Uniontown High School in 1938, Mr. Sisson attended Waynesburg College.
In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on Tinian Island in the Pacific. After he returned from the war, Mr. Sisson started a used-car business in his hometown. He moved to Washington in 1957 and joined McClelland Motors, where he worked as sales manager for several years. He then forged out on his own, first in a partnership selling used cars and then ultimately running his own business. By 1969, he was able to purchase McClelland Motors from "Diek" McClelland and started John Sisson Motors. One of his proudest moments was when he received the telegram from Mercedes-Benz that he had been awarded the franchise.
In 1971, he added the Datsun (Nissan) franchise to his dealership. In 1973, he added a second dealership, John Sisson Motors of Wheeling, where he held Volvo and Mazda franchises.
Mr. Sisson was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. He was past president of Washington Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Elks Club and Tylerdale Civic Betterment League.
On June 3, 1950, he married Catherine Rose Murphy, who survives.
Also surviving are his son, John J. (Vicki) Sisson of Washington; daughter Rosemary (Tony) Linares of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Trey of New York, N.Y., Maggie Sisson of Peters Township and Alexandra and John Linares of Briarcliff Manor.
Mr. Sisson had many friends and loyal customers over his many years in business.
He loved his family very much and they will miss him and all his stories, which were still fresh even after they were told many, many times.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Feeney as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 119 West Chestnut Street, Washington, PA 15301, or to John F. Kennedy School, 111 West Spruce Street, Washington, PA 15301, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
